Meet the Saline Area Soccer Association SWARM STING Travel Coaches

Boyzzz Khumalo -- Incoming Director of Coaching and Player Development. Former professional soccer player, NCAA/NAIA All American and NAIA Player of the Year (first time a freshman has ever won the award). Boyzzz graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a BS in Physical Education. He holds a USSF National B License, a NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma and a Sports Management Worldwide: Soccer Operations and Scouting Diploma. He has coached college, ODP, high school and at soccer camps around the country.  He is also a founder of Umhlaba Vision Foundation, an organization which creates programs to identify opportunities for youth through sport, education and social integration  Boyzzz brings extensive coaching and playing experience to SASA.

Knox Cameron -- Incoming Technical Director of Travel Soccer.  Knox has professional playing experience having played for the Columbus Crew of MLS.  Knox is a former University of Michigan standout having won the Big Ten Player of the year in 2003.  Knox brings a wealth of playing and training experience as he has worked with several Division 1 players.  Knox says, "I am very excited about the opportunity to teach the game of soccer. The game teaches a lot of valuable lessons that our kids can use in their daily lives."

Andy Brookfield --  97 Swarm Black, 96 Sting Black, 02 Swarm Black and 00 Sting Black teams. Andy played at youth affiliates of Sheffield United F.C. and Barnsley F.C, Nottingham Trent University, and semi-professional in England. His coaching experience includes: English F.A. Level 2 certificate, MSYSA National D Coaching License, Barnsley F.C. Academy in England, SASA club trainer for five years.

Meghan Stephens -- 05 Swarm Black team. Meghan has been a youth travel soccer coach since 2010 and currently has her E license. She was a three year Varsity award winner at Saline High school and played for Saline Storm, Ann Arbor United, Ann Arbor Arsenal and Dexter Soccer Club. She is now studying secondary physical education and English at Concordia University and is a member of the Concordia Womens soccer team. 

Leigh Rumbold -- 05 Sting Black, 05 Sting Gold, 04 Sting Gold and 03 Sting Gold teams.  After gaining my coaches badges I have worked for a local football company called Soccer coaching limited. Coaching various age ranges from infants to adults. During this time I have also worked for Challenger Sports for 4 years. I worked in the Midwest for 3 summers while doing a CCT in Detroit. Leigh says, "When coaching young players, It's all about them enjoying the game and having fun. Each session I try to make them learn new skills without them even knowing it adding coaching points through fun activities and games."   

Steve Petty -- 03 Sting Black team.  Steve played competitively throughout college at the University of Manchester, England from 2000 to 2004.  He was the assistant coach with the Bedford Town Colts U11 and U12 teams in 2004-2006.  Steve holds a FA Level 1 Coach License and an MSYSA National D License.  Steve was born and raised in Sunderland, England.

Ashley Upton -- 03 Swarm Black, 03 Swarm Gold teams.  Ashley has played for the Dayton Soccer Academy, Eastern Michigan and the University of Michigan club team as well as on an Olympic Development team.  She has coached for SASA, Wide World Sports Center and the Michigan Tigers Futbol Club.  She holds an MSYSA National D Coaching License.

Simon Daly -- 04 Sting Black, 01 Swarm Black, 01 Swarm Gold, 97 Sting Black teams. Simon Daly's coaching experience includes being the Youth Development Officer for Blackpool FC Academy U8, U7; Head coach for Lancaster City Youth (currently coaches for them in the winters); CCT for Challenger Sports; Appleton Soccer Club, SASA, Mount Moreb Soccer Club, Kimberly  Area Soccer Club developmental age, Challenger Summer Camps.

Lee Hudson -- 02 Sting Black, 01 Sting Black, 01 Sting Gold, 99 Swarm Black teams. Lee has played for the Cheletenham Town Youth and Royal Air Force Mens teams.  Lee's coaching experience includes: Youth coach for Southampton FC, head coach for Southampton University Ladies team, Southampton FC Community Coach, SASA, Royal Air Force Mens Team.  Lee holds a UEFA 'C' Coaching License and is certified in Emergency First Aid.

Ryan Williams -- 02 Sting Gold and 00 Swarm Gold team.  Ryan played travel soccer for five years with the Ann Arbor Arsenal and Michigan Rush. He played for the Saline High School Varsity team for three years and was a captain his senior year. He is currently the assistant coach for the Saline High School Varsity Team and a head coach for SASA.  "I love the game and love being able to teach it to others. As a coach, I strongly emphasize having fun, working hard, good teamwork, and the importance of sportsmanship."

Gareth Rogers -- 00 Swarm Black team. Gareth holds a MSYSA D Coaching License and has been coaching within the SASA organization for eight years. His player experience goes back over 30 years and includes three years at the University of Nottingham in Great Brittain as well as several seasons of top level amateur soccer in the UK and US.

Doug Schantz -- 99 Sting Gold team. Doug has many years of experience coaching recreational and travel soccer for both boys and girls teams.  Doug holds a USYSA E Coaching License.  Doug says, "A good coach needs knowledge of the sport, patience, the ability to teach and a significant sense of humor."

John Kacic -- Goal Keeping Coach.  John is currently a goal keeper for the Ann Arbor Football club and Ann Arbor Soccer club.  He was the starting goal keeper for North Ridgeville High school in Ohio 9th through 12th grades.  He has completed the MSYSA Youth Module Course for U6 to U10. 

Michael Szafranski-- 02 Swarm Gold team. Mike has 21 years of experience coaching youth sports, including six seasons of SASA travel soccer, and currently holds a MSYSA E Coaching License.  His coaching philosophy is that “first and foremost youth sports are for the benefit of the kids, which in turn benefits the families and the community.  As a coach it is my responsibility to promote passion and appreciation for athletics and competition in a safe and motivational environment.  To instruct and guide players both as individuals and as a team to continually improve, while ultimately having fun in the process.”
